The weather dashboard for regenerative agriculture: From concept to production in two hours

AgriRegen represents Whitesmith’s commitment to leveraging technology for environmental impact. Developed internally as part of a sustainability-focused grant application, this digital solution demonstrates how AI can support small-scale farmers in their transition to regenerative agriculture practices. The project combines our expertise in AI development with our mission to scale solutions that benefit both people and the planet.

The weather dashboard emerged as an idea during one of our hackathons as a result of the planning needed to be done by some of the gardeners in our company.
The goal during this hackathon was to demonstrate what’s possible when non-technical team members use AI agents like Cursor Pro to implement relevant features that connect data with actionable insights.

Discovery

Although the dashboard was not part of our initial plan for the grant work, the issue of weather impact on required actions came up in a number of team conversations. The challenge of interpreting weather data and connecting that to actions seemed like an interesting and valuable one, leading to it being selected as a project for the next Whitesmith hackathon.

What we wanted to do:

  • Real-time weather conditions with regenerative farming context
  • Agricultural recommendations based on sustainable practices
  • Rapid prototyping of meaningful agricultural features
  • Non-technical accessibility to advanced development tools

The success criteria:

  • Proof of concept weather dashboard operational within two hours
  • Actionable regenerative agriculture recommendations for different weather scenarios
  • Foundation for scaling sustainable agricultural technology
  • Demonstration that non-technical users can implement sophisticated features using AI agents

For me, this was another opportunity to support regenerative agriculture through technology by demonstrating AI’s capability to democratise agricultural decision-making, complementary to the work we have been doing in the AgriRegen project.

Proof of concept

This weather dashboard transforms raw meteorological data into actionable insights for regenerative farming. The system integrates real-time weather conditions with agricultural intelligence, providing farmers with current temperature, humidity, and precipitation data, alongside sunrise and sunset times, which are critical for farming schedules.

Beyond basic weather display, the dashboard features a weekly analysis engine that processes weather patterns to generate specific recommendations across four key areas:

  • Water management: advising on drought conditions, conservation strategies, and rain collection opportunities,
  • Soil care: guidance on composting timing, mulching, and soil protection during weather events,
  • Planting recommendations: frost risk assessments, heat stress warnings, and optimal timing for different crops,
  • Garden preparation: wind protection measures and weather event preparation strategies.

The dashboard’s intelligent recommendation system leverages weather data, current conditions, and forecasted patterns to provide farmers with timing guidance that supports regenerative practices.

For example, when the system detects upcoming heavy rainfall, it automatically generates recommendations for soil protection measures and suggests optimal times for activities like cover crop planting.

The interface presents hourly and daily forecasts, specifically contextualised for agricultural decision-making. At the same time, weather warnings are translated into farming-specific alerts that help protect crops and optimise field operations. Integrating moon phase data adds another layer of agricultural intelligence, supporting farmers who align planting and harvesting activities with lunar cycles - a practice common in regenerative agriculture approaches.

Results

The production-ready dashboard, which connects weather data and provides customised recommendations, was developed by a non-technical team member in just two hours. This type of rapid development by non-technical people is a recent opportunity made possible by the new generation of AI development tools, such as Cursor Pro in agent mode and Supabase.

This weather dashboard demonstrates how AI enablement can transform environmental technology development. Traditional environmental technology development takes months: requirements gathering, team assembly, development phases, testing, and deployment. AI enablement compresses this into direct implementation. Domain experts can move from identifying an environmental need to having a working solution within hours.

AI agents, such as Cursor Pro, translate environmental knowledge into sophisticated software without requiring technical specialists. This removes development bottlenecks and allows immediate response to climate challenges.

Environmental organisations can now build specific solutions in real-time rather than adapting existing systems months later. Complex environmental solutions can be rapidly prototyped, validated with stakeholders, and deployed at the speed needed to address climate challenges.

Transforming environmental technology at climate speed

The AgriRegen weather dashboard represents more than a successful proof of concept - it demonstrates a fundamental shift in how environmental solutions can be developed and deployed. When complex climate technologies can be built in hours rather than months, we unlock new possibilities for addressing environmental challenges at the speed and scale they demand.

This transformation is particularly critical as climate impacts accelerate. Environmental organisations, agricultural companies, and sustainability-focused enterprises require technological solutions that can keep pace with the rapid changes. AI enablement provides that capability, democratising sophisticated environmental technology development and removing traditional barriers that slow climate action.

The question facing environmental organisations today is not whether AI can accelerate climate solutions, but how quickly they can adopt these capabilities to maximise their impact.
